When I was growing up in the sixties, smoking was common, especially among parents. My parents smoked, not least in connection with car travel on holiday, while we kids sat soaked in cigarette smoke in the rear. Without a seat belt, of course.
The Latin maxim O tempora, O mores – what times, what manners! – Makes a case for itself when I compare my upbringing with that of my children. Everything is so different now compared to then. One way to illustrate this is by showing these old advertising images:
